Bathroom Seascape Mural

The client wanted to be surrounded by a serene naturalistic painting in the bath. We made visits to The National Gallery in London to look at several old master fine art paintings, particularly the Dutch masters (eg Van der Velde, Solomon van Ruysdael), and Claude Lorrain, whose skies are celebrated with dramatic purpose. The techniques of these painters can only be appreciated at first hand.

In this picture, the mirror can be seen on the left hand side. This was always to be a major part of the design, and would reflect the completed painting. Knowing this allowed us to create an endless scene, the source of light emanating from the apex of wall and mirror, and stretching out in both directions. The result was spectacular, and difficult to foresee until the mirror was installed.
